"A cat, I'm sure, could walk on a cloud without coming through."-- Jules Verne
A Siberian cat looks like a furry cloud, is built like a sturdy little barrel, yet is able to skitter across the floor in absolute silence. How is it possible? They are astonishing. In my youth, I was always attracted to felines. I found them to be perfectly lovely creatures. Interestingly, though, I never felt particularly drawn to long-haired breeds. Meeting Siberian cats changed all of that. They are striking in appearance. The males of the breed are majestic, with broad shoulders, barrel chested and full manes. At the same time they are brimming with affection, insistently seeking attention. People-oriented cuddle buddies! Our male breeder, Bogdan, is one such cat-- He is a burly boy who knows what he wants and uses his endless natural charm to get it! When I walk in the room, he saunters over to me, flops at my feet, then stands and extends his front legs for "uppies", all while gazing deep into my eyes. Irresistible! Naturally, I must respond by picking him up. His plans always work!
The females are just heart-meltingly cute-- anime creatures come to life! Our two female breeders, Ilya and Tatiyana, grace our cattery with their beauty and amaze us with their ninja skills. Both the male and female Siberians are surprisingly athletic. They enjoy being on the move and especially enjoy a high vantage point. Their round jewel eyes sparkle with intelligence and an endless curiosity. Their three-layer coats are silky, naturally water-resistant and not prone to matting, although a good grooming session is appreciated from time to time!
I love knowing that the Siberian cat breed is what is known as a "landrace cat". This means that they are a naturally occurring breed, not man-made (standardized). They have a long history in Russia and Siberia. Siberian cats are generally quite resilient.
One more great feature of Siberian cats is that they are considered a hypo-allergenic breed. Hypo-allergenic means less allergenic. So, people who typically have allergy issues with cats may be able to completely tolerate Siberian cats! I must admit, I was a skeptic about this. One of my friends who is, indeed, usually quite allergic to cats decided to test out the Siberians. She entered their space and surrendered herself to the Siberian catmosphere for over an hour, cuddling them, sitting on the furniture, breathing the air. You know what? She had NO ALLERGIC REACTION. I was absolutely floored. If you have allergy issues but are intrigued by the possibilities, please contact us! We can provide you with a fur test from our breeder cats. This may help you to determine if a Siberian cat will be able to join your family.
Cats are a work of art. It is a privilege to be loved by a cat!
