Getting a baby kitten (or two) is a joyful event for the entire household. Kittens bring daily companionship and coax smiles and laughter from their human caretakers. This may be your first pet or an addition to an existing pet family. Either way, preparation is essential.
Kittens are endlessly curious explorers of their little world. They are truly babies, still learning and growing. In the beginning, they may be cautious as they encounter new sights, smells and sounds. Always provide an atmosphere of trust, full of cuddles and gentle love. Make them feel safe with you. This will help kittens adjust to their new surroundings.
Practical needs must be met. Good quality, fresh food, both wet and dry, should be provided, suitable for their current age. Siberian cats love water, perhaps even a water fountain. Of course they need a litter box, kept fresh and clean -- we recommend unscented, clumping litter. Cats can be quite sensitive to scented products.
Be aware of the dangers a kitten might encounter in the home. If there are other, existing pets in your family, please introduce your new kitten gradually, under supervision. Regarding other dangers, keep chemicals away from your pets, as well as most essential oils, which can be harmful to cats.
Toys bring joy to kittens! Kittens are all about play and anything is potentially a toy. Variety is key and it's good to switch out toys from time to time. Cat trees are an absolute must for cats of all ages. They adore climbing and jumping. Siberian cats, especially males, really need a cat tree designed for large cats.
Medical care is always recommended for your pet family-- scheduled vaccinations, wellness checks, spaying/neutering and any other veterinary care. Pets are not too thrilled to visit the doctor, but medical care is beneficial for healthy pets!
Most of all, enjoy your new kitten! They are full of personality, fun and wonderment.
